Liz Talsky understands the real estate market from the ground up – literally. Before working in real estate, she worked as a disaster housing inspector for FEMA for 15 years and learned about how to build a home and then rebuild it. She owns a local electrical contracting company and also spent time as a stay-at-home mom. When her kids went off to college, she decided it was time to try a new career – one that would allow her to combine all these skills. Real estate was a natural fit.

What do you love most about working in real estate – do you have a favorite part of the process?
I love watching buyers’ dreams come true. I remember how it felt to buy my first home and to be a part of that for someone else – it’s just memorable. I enjoy helping people and this just makes it the best part for me.
Do you work with both buyers and sellers, or do you have a preferred niche that works best for you?
I really do love working with both.
Technology has created far more resources than ever before for both buyers and sellers who think they can “do it on their own” – what do you say to folks who think they don’t need a real estate agent anymore?
Well, I think you probably could find a home on your own, but then what? That's where we come in. You find the house of your dreams and then let a professional take care of the rest. We do the heavy lifting – from a purchase offer to closing day. Realtors take care of just about anything that comes up during the process – inspector meetings, contract writing, negotiations, and more. We show up!
Real estate is considered a fairly competitive industry in the greater AVL area, with numerous agencies and a steady stream of new agents – what differentiates you and TBT agents from the rest of the WNC real estate crowd? What is your favorite thing about working with the TBT team?
I started my real estate career at Beverly Hanks and it was an easy transition to the TBT team. We’re a smaller office, and we focus on helping each other to succeed. An added bonus, is that my daughter is part of the team, and that's extra special. I enjoy the team building events and exercises during our monthly gatherings too. While many of us have similar strengths, it’s our differences that really make it work. We’re a laid-back group, but still maintain our professional edge. Our combined years of experience offers buyers and sellers the comfort of knowing that we can handle just about any issue that comes our way.
Takeaways from what you’ve learned in your industry: What is the most important piece of advice you would give to prospective homebuyers? And to home sellers?
My advice is the same for both. Trust the process; trust your agent. Make sure you're comfortable with your Realtor and tell them what you want and what you expect. Give realistic expectations and be patient. Every transaction, while alike, is still different.
Do you have a favorite hobby, pursuit or interest that might surprise your clients – or that has worked to your advantage in connecting with clients?
My family’s hobby is Motocross and Supercross. My son and husband both race so we travel around the U.S. quite a bit. My favorite hobby (besides being a mom) is kayaking. I’m new to it, but I really enjoy being on the water. It’s peaceful and relaxing to be in nature. I also love to travel, especially cruising, and do it quite often.
